John-Carlos is an award-winning broadcast journalist working in Fort Myers/Naples, Florida. He’s an anchor/reporter at WINK News, a CBS affiliate in Southwest Florida.
Prior to his move to Florida, he was managing editor and anchor at KTRE/KLTV in East Texas. While in Texas, he launched “Noticias Breves,” a Spanish-language local news brief for the Telemundo station, and the ‘East Texas Throwback’ series.
John-Carlos’ anchoring and producing was awarded ‘Best Newscast’ by the Texas AP Broadcasters in 2016. His ‘East Texas Throwback’ series was recognized with an honorable mention in reporting by the Lone Star EMMY’s and Texas AP Broadcasters in 2016.
While in East Texas, he also served as an adjunct professor at Stephen F. Austin State University in the Mass Communications department.
John-Carlos arrived to the Pineywoods from Victoria, Texas, where he worked as KAVU-ABC’s lead news anchor and producer.
Prior to KAVU, he was in New York City working as a news writer at MSNBC’s “The Cycle” and NBC’s “Weekend Today.” While in NYC, he also received his M.S. in Broadcast Journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
John-Carlos began his broadcasting career at ABC News’ Washington bureau working as a production assistant. He attended The George Washington University in Washington, DC and earned a B.A. in International Affairs.
He was born in Dallas and raised in the suburb of Garland, Texas. He’s an avid marathon runner — he has competed in the Philadelphia Marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC and countless half marathons around the country.
